  • Vice President Harris came within yards of an explosive device at DNC HQ on January 6, 2021, per CNN.
  • Harris was in the DNC's building for nearly two hours before she was evacuated by Secret Service.
  • The explosive device was discovered outside of the party headquarters near a bench.

Vice President Kamala Harris drove within several yards of a pipe bomb outside of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021 and remained inside the building for almost two hours before the explosive was uncovered, CNN reported Monday.

Several sources informed the network that Harris arrived at the DNC building in Washington DC around 11:30 am with an official motorcade, and entered through the garage which led to the parking deck close to the area where law enforcement discovered the explosive device.

Politico reported earlier this month that Harris — who at the time was the vice president-elect and in the final days of her tenure as a California senator — was inside the DNC building when the pipe bomb was found near an outside bench, but CNN reported additional details of Harris's proximity to the device.

According to the outlet, the explosive was first probed by the Capitol Police at 1:07 p.m. and Harris was evacuated from the building by Secret Service officials seven minutes later, at roughly 1:14 p.m.

A source told the network that Harris left the building using a different route.

That same day, rioters seeking to stop the certification of President Joe Biden's victory over former President Donald Trump breached the US Capitol, sending law enforcement into overdrive as they sought to battle multiple threats in Washington.
